Design, Build & Maintain Philosophy

ESS adheres to proven engineering standards and practices. We design control systems that provide maximum operational efficiency and lowest cost of ownership.

A control system project is a 3 phase process: Site Analysis, Design and Build. The design portion of a ESS project involves the Site Analysis and Design phases. These tasks are quoted and performed separately. This methodology ensures the best possible solution to a control system design. It empowers our clients to make informed decisions regarding process control, project costs & justification, and future expansion concerns. A major benefit to the client is that all critical issues, both apparent and hidden, are thoroughly analyzed prior to project funding, construction and implementation.

Site Analysis

Prior to issuing a quotation for the design of a control system, ESS must first undertake a Site Analysis in order to identify systemic problem areas and accurately determine optimum design parameters. This includes co-ordination with the client, facility operations personnel and possibly ESS sub-contractors. This service is quoted on a time and materials cost basis. A Site Analysis includes in-depth examinations of:
  • existing process parameters including: piping, wiring and instrumentation
  • investigate and identify existing and potential problem areas
  • evaluate current operation vs. desired control scheme
  • identify new equipment and/or instrumentation needs
  • identify maintenance and training requirements
  • evaluate costs and down-time considerations
On-going client participation involves discussions regarding design considerations and includes:
  • problems identified with existing process & operations and requested control features
  • presentation of options for the control system design and possible beneficial changes to process and/or operations
  • finalization of design parameters as selected by client
Once the Site Analysis process is completed, a report is generated and presented to the client. Upon the client’s approval of the selected design parameters, ESS can then issue firm quotation for the design of an efficient and effective control system, its associated equipment and for any required changes to the process.

Design

Upon approval of the design quotation by the client, the design phase will commence. Specifications & drawings are generated. Next, project costs for equipment, including manufacturers recommended spare parts lists, and construction labor are estimated and a time-line for the project is created.

The methodology of Site Analysis and Design insure that costly mistakes which could affect the performance and long-term operation of the control system are avoided. It also provides a mechanism to reduce the impact on production down-time during the construction phase.

Once the design phase has been completed, the build phase can then be quoted and submitted to the client for approval and scheduling.

Build

The construction phase begins when the build quotation and start date have been approved by the client. Equipment is ordered and on-site construction is initiated. ESS supervises all phases of the system installation and programming for adherence to specifications and quality control. Final testing and start-up is also included.

Maintain

We offer maintenance contracts for existing and new control systems. For systems that we have designed, built and installed, we offer our exclusive Assured Reliability maintenance contract, which insures the absolute maximum up-time for that system. This also includes trouble-shooting and system maintenance training for operations personnel.
